Xilinx Serial Digital Video Board for Spartan 3E, using SDI and AES.
The CTXIL206 SDI Video Demo Card Cook Technologies demonstrates SDI and AES on a
low cost Xilinx Spartan 3E FPGA.
Two pairs of SDI and AES transceivers fit into less then 1400 Slices leaving
plenty of room or your own application specific functions. The external
components supporting SDI are inexpensive, physical layer, transmitter cable
drivers and receiver cable equalizers. External components supporting AES Audio
are transformers and a few passive parts.
The demo code can easily fit into a Spartan 3E 250, but the CTXIL206 carries a
1600 device to give you plenty of room to experiment with other IP.
Specific to the Spartan 3E Serial Digital Video Demo code are two methods for
retrieving SDI data. One method uses an external VCO and analog phase sampling
to recover a clock to drive the input DDR flops, and the other method uses a
BRAM based 8X over sampler to recover data with just a 135Mhz XO. The demo code
works even in the slowest speed grade Xilinx Spartan 3E FPGA. All other SDI
solutions can be downloaded from Xilinx XAPP514
The CTXIL206 also comes with 32MB of SDRAM for use as a frame buffer for video
applications or shared with a CPU core such as Micro Blaze. Using EDK 8.1 the
CTXIL206 can easily turn into a Video over IP development platform as the board
includes a 10/100 PHY.
The CTXIL206 also includes the following components: Programming through a
Compact Flash card with Xilinx System ACE controller, 135MHz XO, 135Mhz VCXO,
270Mhz VCO, 24.576 MHz VCXO, Sync Separator, Gen Lock Clock Source, SMA input
and output, and a host of User Interface options. Also included is an expansion
header to customized use.
